The Hazards of the Couch

Thanks to Matt Whitehead, our Portland clinic director, for pointing out this article. It talks about the hazards of inactivity.

Research is showing us that even if we think we’re active, even if we “work out”, that can’t compensate for a lifestyle that has us spending hours upon hours of time sitting in a chair or on the couch. Our bodies are designed to move! Pete’s first book says it clearly: how do we create health? Through motion!

Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a desk job, but there are strategies you need to employ if you have one, strategies that will help you mitigate or prevent the damages caused by excessive sitting. We help clients every week put together action plans to help them have a more body-friendly work experience. If you sit for a living, we’d be happy to help you, too.

The basic message of this article is that we all need to sit less and move more. But what if you want to do that but you hurt when you move? Then you are a PERFECT candidate for Egoscue. If you’d like to get back to exercising but every time you do you get pain, then understand your body is trying to tell you something. We will help you interpret that message and then craft a plan designed to bring your body back to postural balance so that you can get moving again, pain free! Call us at 512-527-0030, we’d love to help you.

Here’s the article. After you read it, stand up and MOVE!
